2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY AWARDS ANNOUNCED

Dear Physicists;

The Turkish Physical Society 42nd International Physics Congress will be held face-to-face and online between August 31 – September 04, 2026, at the Bodrum Municipality Herodotus Cultural Center in Bodrum.

The recipients of the 2026 Turkish Physical Society Awards are announced below.

The awards will be presented with the participation of the awardees during the Congress Opening Ceremony, which will be held at the Bodrum Municipality Herodotus Cultural Center on August 31, 2026, at 09:00. In addition, the opening ceremony and the presentation of the awards will be broadcast live via Zoom and Turkish Physical Society TV (YouTube).

It has been decided that the 2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY HONORARY AWARD will be given to our esteemed colleagues;

2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY SPECIAL HONORARY AWARD;

We have decided to present this award to Prof. Dr. Yifang WANG, Director of the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) China, recipient of the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, Panofsky Prize, Future Science Prize, Nikkei Asia Prize, nominee for the Nobel Prize in Physics, and one of the most important figures in his field in the world. He will be given a plaque and an award certificate by the Turkish Physical Society.

2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY PUBLIC SPECIAL HONORARY AWARD;

We have decided to present this award to Prof. Dr. Ercümend ARVAS, Chairman of the Board of ASELSAN. He will be given a plaque and an award certificate by the Turkish Physical Society.

2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL SPECIAL HONORARY AWARD;

We have decided to present this award to Prof. Dr. Calin Alexandru UR, Director of Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear (ELI-NP) Physics Romania. He will be given a plaque and an award certificate by the Turkish Physical Society.

2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY INDUSTRIALIST AND BUSINESSPERSON SPECIAL HONORARY AWARD;

We have decided to present this award to Dr. Levent UYSAL, Founder of Nişantaşı Education Foundation (NEV) and Istanbul Nişantaşı University. He will be given a plaque and an award certificate by the Turkish Physical Society.

2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY ARTIST SPECIAL HONORARY AWARD;

We have decided to present this award to Actress Zeynep ATILGAN. She will be given a plaque and an award certificate by the Turkish Physical Society.

2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY PRESS SPECIAL HONORARY AWARD;

We have decided to present this award to Yeditepe University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Suat GEZGİN. He will be given a plaque and an award certificate by the Turkish Physical Society.

2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY PROF. DR. ENGİN ARIK SCIENTIST AWARD;

Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Ali ÖVGÜN and İstinye University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Sertaç ÖZTÜRK have won this award. The prize amount of 50,000 TL, to be given by the ARIK family, will be shared among the winners. In addition, the winners will be given an award certificate by the Turkish Physical Society.

2026 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY PROF. DR. ŞEVKET ERK YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD;

Asst. Prof. Dr. Doğa VESKE from Middle East Technical University has won this award. A prize of 30,000 TL, will be given by the ERK family. Apart from the prize amount, an award certificate will also be given by the Turkish Physical Society.

2025 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY ÖZGEN BERKOL DOĞAN BEST EXPERIMENTAL POSTER PRESENTATION AWARD;

İzmir Institute of Technology Master's Student Sinan EROĞLU has won this award. The winner will be given an award certificate by the Turkish Physical Society.

2025 TURKISH PHYSICAL SOCIETY ENGİN ABAT BEST THEORETICAL POSTER PRESENTATION AWARD;

İstanbul University Undergraduate Student Deha KAYKI and Vali Mustafa Cahit Kıraç Anatolian High School Student Lina YILDIZ have won this award. The winners will be given an award certificate by the Turkish Physical Society.

NOTE: The awards will be presented to the winners with a ceremony at the Congress Opening Ceremony, which will be held at 09:00 on August 31, during the Turkish Physical Society 42nd International Physics Congress to be held at the Bodrum Municipality Herodotus Cultural Center between August 31 - September 04, 2026.
